As previously announced, Council received a petition to remove Dimples Stump from her position as Councillor.

Council has followed the process set out in the Piikani Nation Election Bylaw and Regulations, 2002, as amended. Council subsequently decided to suspend Councillor Stump without pay and provided reasons to her at that time. The reasons cover both the decision to recommend to the Piikani Nation Removal Appeals Board that proceedings be conducted to determine whether Councillor Stump should be declared ineligible to continue to hold the office of Councillor and to remove her from office, as well as the decision to suspend her without pay.

Understandably, the petition has generated a lot of interest from Piikani members, as have the reasons for decision and suspension. There is a lot of misinformation and misleading statements being made within our community about the petition and the reasons. This is harmful to our community and the process. We advised Councillor Stump that the petition and reasons should be made available to members for review, and asked for a response. We did not receive one.

We are not circulating the petition or reasons, but Piikani members have a right to review both documents. A computer has been set up in the reception area of the Piikani Nation Administration Office. Members are invited to review the petition and reasons at their convenience during office hours. The computer has been set up so that the petition and reasons cannot be printed or emailed.

Council will issue further updates as events warrant.
