The Opportunity

Piikani Nation Child & Family Services (PCFS) is pleased to announce the call for applications to join the Board of Directors.

PCFS is a culture-based organization creating and supporting strong healthy children and families through the delivery of Piikani-based protection and preventative services. We are mandated to provide protective and preventative child and family services to Piikani members pursuant to, and consistent with, the provisions of Alberta’s Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and with Canada’s Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families.

About the Board

The PCFS Board works collectively, collaboratively and in a holistic manner for the betterment of Piikani Nation children and families, and leads PCFS in alignment with its governance objectives and commitment to Piikani Nation members and community. The Board is responsible for:

  • Supporting the vision and mission of PCFS;
  • Developing a long-range plan and strategy with defined timeframes and milestones to achieve specific goals;
  • Ensuring long-term financial and organizational stability;
  • Overseeing recruitment, and capacity development of executive management and providing support when and where necessary;
  • Approving annual plans, reviewing performance, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations; and
  • Providing operational and financial performance reports based on the goals of PCFS.

At this time, there are four positions available on the Board for Piikani members, one of which is designated for an Elder and one designated for a youth (aged 21 to 29 years). Length of term is to be determined for each available position.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications of Directors
Required

  • Minimum 18 years of age;
  • Clear criminal record and child welfare checks (to be provided with application);
  • Access to reliable transportation;
  • Ability to attend meetings on a regular basis and as may be required;
    Preferred
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act;
  • Knowledge, education and/or experience in the human services field; and
  • Understanding and knowledge of the political, cultural and spiritual protocols of Piikani community.

Please note that applicants must not have the status of a bankrupt and cannot be an employee of PCFS or a former employee of PCFS in the last five years who was dismissed for cause.

This opportunity is open for receipt of applications until 4:00pm on November 14, 2022 or until suitable candidates have been appointed.
